Broadcast Union News is a clearing center for information of interest to people working in television, film, print/electronic media, and theater. A chance for AEA, AFTRA, IATSE, IBEW, CWA-NABET, DGA, SAG, Newspaper Guild, WGA, and non-represented entertainment industry workers to share information with an eye towards improving wages, benefits, and working conditions for all.
IATSE Local One President James J. Claffey Jr is happy to report that we have reached a successful resolution with the Tony Awards Productions. Local One will be adding a crew under the Beacon Theatre contract to service the red carpet on and off the properties of the Beacon Theatre.
It is only with the anticipated support of the membership of the greatest Local in the land that we were able to achieve this type of success.
Congratulations to All!
The Executive Board of Local One, I.A.T.S.E.
TONY AWARDS JOB ACTION
June 9, 2011
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The Broadway League and The American Theatre Wing, particularly Tony Award Production/Wasser Associates, are challenging our jurisdiction once again with their intention to use aNON-SIGNATORY CONTRACTOR EMPLOYING NON-UNION STAGEHANDSto service the Red Carpet work across the street from The Beacon Theatre (with whom we have no dispute) while 50 Local One Stagehands and dozens of other IATSE members work inside and outside The Beacon Theatre at the same time. Local One has historically done this Red Carpet work for decades.
President James J. Claffey, Jr. is requesting support and participation from our members to join him and the Officers of Local One on the picket line that is likely necessary this Sunday, June 12th at 7:00 a.m. on Amsterdam Avenue between 73rd and 74th Streets across from The Beacon Theatre.
LOCAL ONE MUST EXERCISE OUR LEGAL RIGHTS IN GREAT NUMBERS ON THE PICKET LINE. A POOR SHOWING OF MEMBERS ON THE PICKET LINE WILL BE A REFLECTION OF WEAKNESS.
THE GREATEST LOCAL IN THE LAND MUST TRULY DEMONSTRATE ONCE AGAIN THAT WE WILL FIGHT TO PROTECT OUR UNION AND JURISDICTION.
Please monitor your email for updates and/or call 212-333-2500 Ext. 142 on Saturday, June 11th for more information and updates.
